Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic penicillin effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death. Amoxicillin is stable in gastric acid, well absorbed orally, and achieves peak plasma concentrations within 1–2 hours. It is widely distributed throughout body tissues and fluids.
